🦑 I Got a Barnacle in My Eye
(And a Big Reminder About Seasonal Prep)
A Salty Surprise on the Hudson
Last Saturday, I got a barnacle in my eye.
Ouch.
For those who don’t know, barnacles are little sea creatures that attach themselves to boats under the waterline, and they can do real damage. Because we didn’t get much rain this summer, the saline levels in the Hudson stayed unusually high—barnacles love salt water. This year, they were everywhere.
Boat Season Wrap-Up
We got our boat late in the season, and yesterday was the day to haul it out and prep for winter for storage at the Chelsea Yacht Club:
- Draining lines
- Removing cushions
- Taking off sails
- And of course—scraping off barnacles and power-washing the hull
How Did a Barnacle Get in My Eye?
You might be wondering: how does a barnacle even get into someone’s eye?
Well, I neglected to wear my PPE—aka sunglasses—and while I was scraping and power-washing like a mad woman, one of those sharp little bits flew straight in.
Lesson learned.
Boats Aren’t the Only Things That Need Seasonal Prep
It’s always a little sad to say goodbye to summer, but it’s also a reminder: just like boats, our homes need to be readied for the season ahead.
And as much as I love a good power-wash, when we clean your Heating systems, don’t worry—Industrial Gasoline power-washers are not part of the program.
Instead, we take a detailed, careful approach to get your system ready for the season ahead.
